How quickly things change when you put yourself in a position to be open to new experiences. Recently…my love of rowing took me to Annapolis MD to row in a 13.1 mile race around Wye Island. Now….I’ve experienced this race before in a single which was quite an undertaking to say the least. That year it was 12 miles which is longer than 13.1 if are in a 1x -vs- a 4x which is the boat we rowed this year.
I organized the race this year since I was familiar with the course….I convinced 6 of my sculling comrades to row in a quad and a double. What a blast! In the process of organizing this race…I thought to myself…why not make a commemorative necklace for the girls who are rowing with me? That started me down a path of experimentation with different designs. Well…as luck would have it…we actually recruited Bob to row with us…who certainly wouldn’t have appreciated a necklace as a keepsake of a fabulous race. Well…now I had these designs and my next thought was…why not just set up a tent and sell them at the regatta just as I would any summer art show? So I did.
The response was phenomenal and the following week I was convinced to sell at my own boathouse regatta which happened to be sponsored by US Rowing. Again…phenomenal sales! BTW…we took gold in the quad at the Wye Island regatta and the double took gold too!
Long story short…an amazing women name Lesleh from Regatta Sport was in Cleveland that week and she caught the Aviron Jewelry fever as well. The result is that Aviron Jewelry will be sold at the largest US regatta event….the Head of the Charles (HOCR) in Boston MA !!!
Aviron Jewelry was born out of my life long passion for jewelry and named after my athletic passion of rowing….finally the two have merged and its bliss! Aviron will also be featured at the Head of the Hooch regatta in Chatanooga as well as the running line of Aviron jewelry at the Rock -n- Roll marathons in the US. Check us out!
